Plum City Events was founded in 2022 by Amanda Miller. Amanda’s career started in the destination management industry in the Washington, DC market, where she gained invaluable experience. After returning home to Northeast Ohio many years later, Amanda saw Cleveland becoming an increasingly attractive destination for meeting and convention planners and a city that needed a DMC. Plum City Events was founded and became that DMC! In 2023, seasoned hospitality professional Sally (Weinberg) Pekarek joined the company as Partner and President to support the growing needs of the company’s clients and local market.
At a May 1981 Indians baseball game, Mayor George Voinovich made the first pitch with a plum and introduced Clevelanders to the “New York may be the Big Apple, but Cleveland is a Plum” slogan. The marketing campaign captured public interest, and for years, Cleveland was plum crazy, and thus, the moniker Plum City was born!
